GENERAL. This web page provides an overview of data about 1755-1920 Tverečius RC parish in Lithuania for use in Lithuanian ancestor search.
LOCATION. Tverečius is a small rural town in Lithuania, located 100 kilometers northeast of Vilnius. It is located in the easternmost part of Lithuania. It is located just south of the Dysna river, which constitutes part of the present-day border between Lithuania and Belarus. It is in the Tverečius elderate of Ignalina district municipality in Utena county.
PARISH HISTORY. The parish was established in the year 1501. The parish is named "Holy Trinity" or "Blessed Trinity" [depending on one's translation preferences]. The parish celebrated its 500-year anniversary in 2001, and is still functioning. The present church is a brick building that was built in 1906.
